Refurbishment of a large dance and drama studio

For this project the ThermaCool Panel was specified by architectural practice, Associated Architects, for installation into the large dance and drama studio that was being refurbished as part of the £11million project to improve the thermal comfort levels for the occupants.

Due to the span of the space traditional heavyweight construction methods  was not a viable option and so a lightweight thermal mass solution was required. ThermaCool met this requirement and over 360m² of panel was installed on the project which is set to achieve a BREEAM for Schools ‘Excellent’ standard for sustainability.

We’ve used the ThermaCool Panel to control overheating in the Dance and Drama studio. We always want to make sure that we are using the right product for the design, and in this instance ThermaCool ticked all the boxes

Combining thermal comfort and acoustic performance

Part of the Priority Schools Building Programme the Dorchester Primary School extension project is a lightweight steel frame construction by modular design and build contractor ExtraSpace Solutions Ltd.

Being an education building and a building of lightweight construction, the element of thermal mass and thermal comfort was crucial in the design in order to meet the requirements under Building Bulletin 101 – Ventilation for School Buildings.

On completion of a thermal modelling exercise by independent consultants Atkins and SI Sealy, the ThermaCool acoustic ceiling tile was specified as a solution that offered a combined thermal comfort and acoustic performance.
